I just finished this book. It was great, my favorite part was hearing about LuLing's past. But the third and final section seemed a little rushed. After the complexity of the first section, the third one didn't really do much with it but tie up loose ends. It was already a pretty decently long book, but I thought a lot more could have been done at the end. I'm glad I read it nonetheless.

This highly praised book by Amy Tan managed to capture the hearts of many people including mine. Simply, captivating and mesmerizing. She carefully interweaves the modern Asian-American life with the history of her ancestors and life in China...and she reminds us how the past affects the present.

A very good book about treachery, shame and guilt as something very human; but also about love, warmth and forgiveness and about choosing one's story. This book gave me many insights and was very interesting also in a social historical point of view. Now I am even more curious about China.
