The Scar

Wow.

The ending is, yet again, anti-climatic. It's like Mieville is afraid of tackling the (big) themes he's exploring right to the end. And that's a little bit dissapointing, seeing what a rich imagination he has.

If your a fan of steam punk or magic this book rocks!!!

great book. I fell in love with several of the characters. you keep wondering who the antagonist really is and what's really going on. there is resolution, but it leaves you wanting more of that world because there is so much to it and so many things you wonder about some of the characters. this was my first mieville book and i am definitely impressed.

Great addition to the New Crobuzon saga - focuses on a pirate armada and it's freedom, diversity and madness.

An entertaining book but lacking in the wow factor that could have truly put this book on the map.

Not bad, not nearly as good as his earlier work Perdido Street Station, which while overly detailed in the descriptions of the city was a good page turner and had a great building sense of horror. This was more like a fantasy travelogue at times. The book was a bit too long, too much time went by with too little happening and sometimes the main characters just had little to do with events. Still, lots of interesting ideas, the man has some really original thoughts and there was well presented action at times.   hide

If this were ever made into a movie, it would be the most badass steampunk/vampire/sci-fi/pirate flick ever.

Brilliant and evocative. Plot plays second-fiddle to discription of the perdido street universe.
