The Ghost Orchid: A Novel

Started okay but dragged at the end.

A magical and captivating mystery that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed this book. A great ghost story, well told.

A little less predictable than Lake of Dead Landuages, characters still just as good, with more of a gothic ghost twist

A fun story. Once you get past the whispering of the river and the overly obvious symbols.

My favorite author, but not my favorite book. This one took me awhile to get trhough.

Really enjoyed this especially once I realized that it was set at Yado, an artist's retreat in Saratoga, NY where I went to college. I enjoyed this.

Started reading it for my new book club and had a horrendous time putting it down! Finished it in under 24hrs, mostly because of Labor Day but I consider that a piece of luck! There are two separate but semi-parallel stories that take place 100 years apart, and figuring out the parallels is half the fun of the book. There's a bit of a romance, a bit of mythology, quite a bit of native American legend...and a LOT of ghost. Not something to pick up at night if you get creeped out easily! The alternating chapters telling the two stories was a neat device, and one of the reasons I found the book so hard to put down. I kept wanting to see how what was happening in one time line was affected by what I had just learned from the other. I did NOT like the way the author tried to write in present tense. I find it really annoying to read phrases where the tenses don't match within a single sentence. It is human nature to tell a story in the past tense, and it just didn't work.   hide
