more Started reading it for my new book club and had a horrendous time putting it down! Finished it in under 24hrs, mostly because of Labor Day but I consider that a piece of luck! There are two separate but semi-parallel stories that take place 100 years apart, and figuring out the parallels is half the fun of the book. There's a bit of a romance, a bit of mythology, quite a bit of native American legend...and a LOT of ghost. Not something to pick up at night if you get creeped out easily! The alternating chapters telling the two stories was a neat device, and one of the reasons I found the book so hard to put down. I kept wanting to see how what was happening in one time line was affected by what I had just learned from the other. I did NOT like the way the author tried to write in present tense. I find it really annoying to read phrases where the tenses don't match within a single sentence. It is human nature to tell a story in the past tense, and it just didn't work.
