Dragon Harper (The Dragonriders of Pern)

my Pern favorite.

This is the saddest 'Dragon' book I've ever read. I loved all the characters, new and old. I enjoyed all despite the sadness it evoked. Lots of character development as usual and more understanding of how the holds, weyrs and halls work and did not work together during a crisis. Politics were not left behind when the original settlers left their homes to reach for the stars.

The dragon riders can't risk coming into contact but they do provide some food and other supplies. I am so relieved that Todd McCaffrey is able to carry on the Pern books. I loved this book a lot more than I liked Dragon's Fire. The story was intriguing and I was very happy to find out the details of what happened to Kindan. The plague story reminds me of Tamora Peirce's "Briar's Book," which I loved.

This book is very hard to put down once you get into it. It opens strong (with a hatching) and takes (what I thought was) a rather unexpected turn. There are a few editing slip-ups in the second half, though. That was a little disappointing.

Good story and well written. Another hit in the series.
