In my opinion not one of her best. It seems to me that with this book, she didn't have the ability to make me empathize with the characters. That could be because it was about Jesus, and I'm not religous. lol

Not being a Christian myself, but fascinated with Jesus and other religious characters, I enjoyed Rice's treatment. Believers, especially, should back their belief with a historical and geographical understanding of the life and times from which their religion sprung.

An excellent author has found a topic she shines in. You feel like your walking the dusty roads with the characters and feel the fear as they dodge the Romans at every turn. More than that is the hope she brings to life in the most terrible of conditions.

This is the second book in Anne Rice's fictional re-telling of the life of Christ. Rice does a good job of painting the scene of first century Palestine and in describing the religious and political struggles of the day. Her Jesus is a quiet and introverted one, who loves his family and his town and who struggles with the role he is to play. Rice's conversion to Catholicism and her orthodox...more

Loved it - must read. Anne Rice really captured the spirit of what it must have been like for Jesus to discover who He was and what He was to do for humanity. Loved it. The difference in this book and say, her Lestat books is amazing. That Anne Rice has given her life to the Lord and wants only to write for him is a giant leap from the earlier novels.

I found this interesting and enjoyable to read because of the obvious dialogue Ms. Rice entered into regarding the current so-called 'Third Quest for the Historical Jesus.' Keeping in mind she's writing and novel, not a history, this is an interesting 'fleshing-out' (if you'll pardon the pun) of the childhood and early adolescence of Jesus. She's thought about some...more

Quite the departure from her usual fare. Dry, yet flowery. A quick read, but overall, I didn't like it.

I began this book with some prejudices and had to be challenged to read it. I'm so glad I did! Anne Rice does an excellent job of writing this fictitious, but well-researched and thoughtful account of Jesus at seven years old.
