more I stopped reading this book halfway into it and after a lengthy pause finally managed to finish it. I consider myself a fan of Kellerman’s writing, but this book just wasn’t interesting to me. After introducing the characters of Moe Reed and Aaron Fox in 2008’s Bones, Kellerman decides to give them top billing in True Detectives. They’re interracial half-brothers at odds with one another. One is a private investigator, and the other one is a L.A. cop. The mystery surrounds a missing college student and tosses in the usual mix of shady suspects and predictability once the brothers are forced to work together. Kellerman also sprinkles in a few cameos from Milo Sturgis, Alex Delaware, and Petra Connor which only makes me wish this book was about them. Like a long running television program whose main characters are suddenly replaced with new faces, I want the old and familiar. I don’t want to have to get to know these new people. Even though the Alex Delaware novels are hit and miss, I usually enjoy them. I didn’t, however, enjoy True Detectives.
