complex . . . and confusing at the beginning . . . good read though - and not to get too deep . . . interesting parallel with the Israel-Palestine thing

Though it's confusing at first, The City & The City is a masterpiece of storytelling. All the right notes are sounded, all the characters are developed and the story is engrossing and exciting. Highly recommended for readers willing to open a book and dive in headfirst without asking questions. Everything you want to know is explained in the end. Very satisfying read.

Interesting premise; but not quite hard-boiled detective noir. Good stuff all-around.

Confusing at first but interesting "Matrix"/conspiracy theory type book. Plenty of cursing. Very different from anything I have ever read. May make an interesting movie.

Will require re-reading. Just fabulous. His divided city and concepts of unseeing bring back the true meaning of "absurd".

Two cities share a border and the citizens are taught to "unsee" the city they are not a citizen of. Great detective novel with a very unique and interesting plot of the cities and then a secret city within those. I still think of this book and i read it over a month ago.

This book is an entertaining police procedural inhabiting the same space as a philosophical examination of the arbitrary artificiality of borders and nationalities. It calls to mind Italo Calvino's _Invisible Cities_ and had me enthralled from start to finish. A book that will recall to you the magic of the in-between spaces. Fantastic, in every sense of the word.
