I really liked the story. Henry is trapped in his cultural identities: Chinese, American, Chinese-American. He falls for a Japanese-American girl (drawn together because of their being outcasted) and this adds another cultural identity issue. He falls for a Japanese-American girl (drawn together because of their being outcasted) and this adds another cultural identity issue. I liked the historical background (Japanese internment, Japanese occupation of China) and Seattle. The whole book is about longing and belonging. There were some parts that were a bit redundant but well-worth the read.
