Shirley Jackson wrote some edgy, disquieting short stories in her time.  THE LOTTERY is exhibit A.  There are many other gems in this collection.

I found this book to be awful and unreadable.  The stories were really boring and just didn't do it for me.

Unfortunately the "Other Stories" in the Lottery, I found were not as entertaining as "The Lottery" itself. While having read the Lottery first, the other stories were quite disappointing for my taste.
