The author is a 20 year old college student who gets picked up and imprisoned for participating in political protests. The question is interesting...how committed are you to your beliefs? How far would you go to defend them? What is courage? I appreciate the authors honesty and openness in sharing her story but I didn't find this book "mezmerizing" as many other reviewers did...the language was...more

Shocking. My Life as a Traitor recounts the horrors of torture (physical and psychological) inflicted upon a young political prisoner in Iran. Ghahramani's experiences are intense and horrifying. It was good, but could have been written better. There are so many ways to describe pain. I could not really feel her suffering.

This book could have been so deep and insightful and yet did not achieve that depth .The Author did not convey her pain and suffering and was not convincible.

Makes you really appreciate freedom of speech. Also interesting incites to thinking and history of the citizens of Iran. Makes you want to know more. And that's a good thing.

Poorly written and she comes off as a spoiled princess. There are alot better reads out there. It seems in the book she only joined the movement to impress her friends or look cool. I didn't get any sense of her as a person at all...just as someone who was in over their head.
