A deeply moving look at the personal cost of the Civil War for the soldiers and for their family members left back at home. The book includes countless personal notes and excerpts from letters that really brings home the impact that this war had on the young American nation that was undergoing its greatest test since the Revolution. Highly recommended.

Interesting read about how death affected all aspects of society in America during the Civil War. It's intriguing to understand how our modern day processes evolved but some of the topics ie. dress, made the read hard to get through at times.

An utterly amazing book; a perspective on the Civil War that I have never come across anywhere else. If the period interests you at all read this one.
