sometimes, while reading this book, I forgot how angry I was at some points after 9/11... then I got more angry for forgetting. extremely interesting and well-thought. I think about this subject all the time and I NEVER did before.

A comprehensive and devastating history of Al Qaeda, culminating in the attacks of 9/11. Should be required reading for anyone interested in the world.

The CIA and FBI were fully aware of a major attack on US soil and decided to ignore all the intelligence and file it away. The Loomig tower really gives you an insight into Bin Ladens world ...I would have liked more information about the hijackers but it reads like an addictive thriller...A Must read!!

A must-read. I have taken courses on terrorism, I've read histories, manifestos, everything. I still have never anything quite like this book. Wright's method of simply moving to Jidda and interviewing everyone produces a gripping, coherent, and startlingly incisive history of al-Qaeda. When the book opens on Sayyed Qutb in a cabin on an ocean liner from Alexandria to New York, you know you're in...more

I honestly didn't think that there was anything about 9/11 that had not already been written or screened extensively, so I thought this book would simply be a rehash of stuff most people already knew. It's not. It's gripping and gruesome in parts and interesting throughout

Even though we seem to be in a "war against islamo-facism" its pretty pathetic that we don't have more books like this one to help us understand the origins of al-qaeda and the muslim brotherhood. This is definitely a great book and my favorite parts are when he quotes Sayyid Qutb's diary. - the guy is really sexually repressed.

Easiest non-fiction read I've ever had. Interesting and accurate. The research behind this work is mind-boggling.

Ok, so all of the Arab names in this book get quite confusing after a while, but after reading it you should have a better understanding of who and why we are fighting in the Middle East and why we absolutely must not pull of troops out.
