Mindblowingly poetic, astute and thoughtful. Each and every story is brimming with linguistic and conceptual inventiveness. The title story will blow your brains out, and if it doesn't you're officially dead from the neck up.

A dystopian future outlaws sleep, a fairygodmother appears to a depressed shopgirl on Christmas, rooms in an old estate mansion disappear...all this in one book of eclectic short stories. Some are fanciful, others are passionate or meditative, and one or two can set you to tears. In any case, it's intensely satisfying because they are very short for short stories and you can read them one-by-one...more
