Slim, economical, harrowing. A comic set-up (bored housewife meets egomaniacal self-help guru) takes some decidedly odd turns. Most of the book consists of dialogue, as these two odd, shut-down people delicately and slowly learn to open up to each other. Lovely indeed. Most of the book consists of dialogue, as these two odd, shut-down people delicately and slowly learn to open up to each other. Lovely indeed. However, the last third contains scenes of nauseating and graphic violence, which threw off the tone of the book. A more or less happy ending did not do much to negate my feeling of queasiness as I finished the book.
