critics say that this is a japanese version of "the catcher in the rhye" probably because it's about a troubled teenager and how strangely the protagonist deals with the series of circumstances. But with regards to the story, they're very different from each other. Of course, the style of Murakami is very evident including the symbolisms although this book was considered different from all his other novels, Murakami's unique story telling style echoes throughout the pages. this book is indeed very memorable like the Beatles' song of the sane name.   hide

Love this book--- I highly recomend it-- the translation flows very well, it is an easy yet sophisticated read. My favorite Murakami :)

love, lost, and loneliness

Unlike any other Huraki Murakami novel I've read so far and sadly I cannot say that I enjoyed it. Given that this is probably his most famous work, I'm feeling way off base here. However, I found not one likable character in the bunch and never really cared about what happens to them. Sigh... I still love all those other Murakami novels that are simply divine!
