critics say that this is a japanese version of "the catcher in the rhye" probably because it's about a troubled teenager and how strangely the protagonist deals with the series of circumstances. Love this book--- I highly recomend it-- the translation flows very well, it is an easy yet sophisticated read. My favorite Murakami :)

Unlike any other Huraki Murakami novel I've read so far and sadly I cannot say that I enjoyed it. Given that this is probably his most famous work, I'm feeling way off base here. However, I found not one likable character in the bunch and never really cared about what happens to them. Sigh... I still love all those other Murakami novels that are simply divine!
