Good writer no doubt, has an amazing ability to draw literature out of every day. Very few people can do that! But not my kind of book.. had to push myself to finish it.
The detail. The anticipation. The smell of the pages as they turn. The noise as the pages turn; sometimes not. The final cremation. The time to read it again.
A beautiful book that makes you want to get up at 4 in the morning and make a fire... Baker uses language in a way that makes the most mundane activities seem riveting.
Short and sweet. Condensed Baker.
If you like his idiosynchratic writing style (very focussed on the minutiae of modern life) this is a quick and satisfying read.
