Although it is important to have a sense of the environment from a historical perspective, after the third page of a few paragraphs that don't even mention Ralph Ellison, you wonder if they were just included to make the book thicker.

Fascinating and thorough account of a brilliant American's journey. Oh, if only he were alive to see our political landscape today
