I would give this six stars if I could. Stunningly good.

An amazing collection of short stories, each seeking to represent a tiny voice in society, yet written in such a surrealistic way which only belongs in a dream.

I still haven't managed to be able to get into East Asian lit, but I keep trying!

I loved this collection. I wanted more about the characters. I've borrowed several others by this author to get me through the snows of February and March.

nov 07. saw a dramatic renditon of these stories at the berkeley rep. i have never read any of murakami's stuff and although it seems like he has a fertile imagination and a knack for creating colorful characters, these stories left me unsatisfied-it may just be the dramatic rendition: the dialogue was flat and went nowhere and some of the acting was awful.
