I just finished 'wild sheep chase' and all i wanna say is that i was real pleased with the ending, isn't that the most important part? the ending? i don't want to give anything away to anyone shopping on this, if they do that, but i recommend it none the less. Murakami's got that real surreal quality about his books. Plus it takes place on another side of the globe, which is really like a completly diff't world.    hide

For me, quite possibly the definitive Murakami book. This is the Murakami I like best, and everything else deviates from that.A very interesting story, with a healthy dose of wackiness, of unreality, and plenty of self-analysis and such, but not too much. I got about halfway through WindUp Bird Chronicle before I couldn't continue for fear of being bored to death. Wild Sheep Chase, by contrast, has plot, action, and ongoing elements of the so-called magical realism mood, atmosphere, that makes Murakami so special.   hide
