Very disappointing and unfocused conclusion to an otherwise great series. He leaves out so much that it doesn't do the time or people involved justice.

After Lincoln, this book was my favorite in the series. Yet I thought it was a bit lame how Gore Vidal inserted himself into the novel and then blurred the line between fiction and reality in the Epilogue. It was a very interesting convention but more the result of a man in his eighties reflecting on a series that has dominated thirty years of his life than it was a literary technique.
