My favorite book of all time. Exciting story which takes place between 1958 and 1963, filled with actual historical characters. The main plot however focuses on three fictional men: Kemper Boyd, FBI agent working for J. Edgar Hoover, goes undercover to the Kennedy family. One of my favorite books of all time. I mindfucking hallucinogenic bender through America's seedy, sick underbelly. Conspiracy reigns and everything is connected in Ellroy's masterpiece. It probably actually happened this way. THis books tears away every preconception of Camelot and shows you everything. American Tabloid is, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining books I've read. Ellroy has a wonderful gift for pacing his writing: dragging you into his rhythm and constantly upping the tempo. The story itself is an amalgam of the darker side of the late 50s and early 60s - starting with FBI's communist paranoia and ending with the Kennedy assassination.
