more I finished reading "Monkeys" by Susan Minot last night and was surprisingly pleased. However, I didn't expect to enjoy this reading as much as I did. The way this book is written is superb in the sense that it acknowledges the truths of what we are all afraid to voice. Because of the honesty portrayed through the words in the book, not between characters, was I heartbroken. I feel that everyone in some way, or at some point in their life has experienced emotions and thoughts parallel to these characters. Regardless, the reality addressed is appalling, yet informative and almost educational.
Minot's excessive use of similes truly helped me to grasp the gravity of the points she was striving to convey to the audience. She also used anadiplosis and hypoerboles to entice the reader.
I throughly enjoyed this book, although the message is disheartening because of its truth.
