One of the most detailed, well researched and referenced biographies I've read - Roosevelt is a fascinating character and Morris does a wonderful job of telling his story...liked it so much I went out and bought Theodore Rex, the next in the series.

This is the biography of Theodore Roosevelt – the naturalist, writer, lover, hunter, ranchman, soldier, and politician. Through these different hats, he earned the love and respect of the American people and eventually became President. This book describes his childhood up until his Presidency (the book does have a second volume describing his Presidency). Not only well written, this book is a great read because the life of this energetic and amazing man is an adventure in and of itself! Every page of this book shows Roosevelt in some new adventure – whether it be fighting criminals in the wild west or pushing legislation as Governor of New York. Some may argue there was some hero worship involved in the telling of this story. Hard to say – but it is hard to avoid the simple fact that Roosevelt went from a sickly child into a man that accomplished many, many remarkable and courageous feats in so many different areas of life. Hero-worship or not, Roosevelt is a remarkable man worth reading about.   hide

One of the finest biographies I've ever read. It takes TR from birth to assumption of the Presidency. Morris is incredibly vivid and brings you right into this fascinating story. Comprehensively researched and documented, the wonderful narrative is brought alive with Roosevelt's own words.
