The section, On Liberty, was incredible. i only had to read the first three chapters for class but they were great. i think discussions on liberty should be taken up more often.

Tremendous. The sections on On Liberty and The Subjection of Women are brilliant. The latter in particular deals with the issue of women being treated as second class citizens in a manner which would still be considered thoughtful and current. Tremendous. The sections on On Liberty and The Subjection of Women are brilliant. The latter in particular deals with the issue of women being treated as second class citizens in a manner which would still be considered thoughtful and current. His clear adherance to the principles of liberty shine through in both pieces. Utterly beautiful and in spite of their Victorian roots still as relevant today as they were then. Utilitarianism is more muddled and fails to give as coherant of a picture as might be desired, however, it delivers several clear points in a helpful fashion. It is simply less convincing than the other two works. This version contained a number of useful footnotes and explanations which make the rather dense and intimidating text readable, catapulting Mill's brilliance into modern day language.   hide
