The section, On Liberty, was incredible. i only had to read the first three chapters for class but they were great. i think discussions on liberty should be taken up more often.

Tremendous. The sections on On Liberty and The Subjection of Women are brilliant. The latter in particular deals with the issue of women being treated as second class citizens in a manner which would still be considered thoughtful and current. His clear adherance to the principles of liberty shine through in both pieces. Utterly beautiful and in spite of their Victorian roots still as relevant...more

Just commenting on "On Liberty". Wow. This book is as deep as fuck. The cautious and elegant manner in which JSM mounts his arguments is mind-blowing. You really get the impression that this guy is the Oracle. The killer is that he's telling you the exact opposite of the feeling you have when you read him. He's like, don't take my word for it, I could only be telling half truths at best because...more
