The Halloween Tree

Not a kid's book by any stretch...tries to be educational, but's it too vague for that and can't stand up on it's own theories. Boring.

This is an absolutely marvelous book by a masterful author. It covers the international traditions, ancient and modern surrounding Halloween as currently celebrated in North America. Written for a YA audience, it contains touches of the macabre without being truly nighmare-ish and incorporates a mentor figure with the marvelously tongue-tingling name of Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud. ...more

This is an absolutely marvelous book by a masterful author. It covers the international traditions, ancient and modern surrounding Halloween as currently celebrated in North America. Written for a YA audience, it contains touches of the macabre without being truly nighmare-ish and incorporates a mentor figure with the marvelously tongue-tingling name of Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud. Read it aloud near Halloween. It will probably take two or three sessions to finish it, but it's well worth it.   hide

Our family's favorite novel (and cartoon movie as well).

I was enchanted with this book both as a child and a young adult and still recall the book's vivid imagery.
