THE YEAR 2007 marks the 65th anniversary of a bold experiment: the launch of the Little Golden Books during the dark days of World War II. At a time when the literacy rate was not nearly as high as it is now - and privation was felt by nearly all - quality books for children would now be available at a price nearly everyone could afford (25 cents), and sold where ordinary people shopped. Little Golden Books! And coffee-table books... this one about the publishing of Golden Books. Marcus is great on children's literature authors
I'm a fan. This coffeetable volume tells the interrelated stories of favorite books. Marcus is the biographer of Margaret Wise Brown.
Interesting history of those wonderful little golden books. Learned a lot about how they came about and continued to be successful. Many women made it high up in the Golden Company which was nice to read about.
