Saw the movie first, then had to read the book, which was much better ~ couldn't believe the author was so young & what an amazing world he had created. Only drawback to me was the name ~ felt like a slight rip-off of the LOTR hero, but the story & characters were really interesting & I enjoyed it a lot.

This is the biggest rip off in sci-fi fantasy history. Everything from character names to entire magical concepts has been stolen from another famous classic fantasy book. Shame on Paolini, and shame on the publishers for printing this plagarized piece of garbage.

The saying goes, if there's a gun on the mantlepiece in a story, the gun better go off by the end. This book is full of needless details - guns all over the place and not a firing in sight. Also derivative, but mostly just needs a good editing.

Unlike the movie I found the book to be better. Don't get me wrong I like the movie but the book is always better.. More details and you get to see the characters flourish.

Somewhat predictable, but still very entertaining. At any rate, far better than the movie, which was only halfway decent. Most people who like fantasy would probably like this book.
