The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

Read aloud this book about 4 girls to my 8 and 5 year old boys. They enjoyed it almost as much as the first book (they prefer: more adventure! less romance!). Jeanne Birdsall's writing is timeless...we eagerly await the next.

was soooo cute!!!! like the first one, it just remembered me when I was young!!!! so cute, I will read it to my kids (when I'll have kids lol). sooo cute and touching.(45)

I love the relationship between the Dad and the daughters in this book and think it would make a great parent/child book club read.

Back home, the Penderwicks are a little less charming. Multiple plot lines drag a bit and the "mystery" goes no where. Still, nice to spend time with them again.

Keep on writing more Penderwick stories, please!

This story finds the Penderwick clan back home (from holiday) and in school and enjoying life. Until their beloved Aunt Claire comes to visit and tries to convince Mr. "Pen" (as he is affectionately called around the neighborhood) that he needs to think about dating again (since the children's mother died soon after "Batty" was born). Both hilarity AND despair ensue, making this one of the better reads for me this year!! Highly enjoyable!!   hide

LOVE IT!

Absolutely love these books, have read them twice in the past few months. Zara and I are reading this one outloud to eachother. It's a good knitting time story. Truly sweet! Look forward to the third book!
