This book was not all that great but I have to think about the audience that the book was geared toward.

Sally is a strong (but certainly not perfect) character who doesn't wait around to be rescued. A page-turning mystery.   hide

It was light and engaging, with some clever phrasings of words.

A fun and quick read, and nice to see a smart, strong female character at the helm. Unfortunately, nowhere near as good as his "Dark Materials" trilogy which is three tiers above this enjoyable fluff.

Philip Pullman is a terrible writer.

it was okay, but I have to say, that i prefered much more HIS DARK MATERIAL. it was good though.(28)

i cannot believe they made this into a drama, the plot and whole story were pathetic. was dissapointed.

Yes - a really good read, I must say. Looking forward to the sequels and his dark materials too.
