The battles don't happen as frequently as you'd read in a Salvatore, but Feist's attention to detail and flow are more than enough to keep the reader engaged. Clearly, Feist has planned for an epic story for the reader, as this first book lays down a solid foundation for the background of our future heros. However, unlike Jordan, Feist has paced the book at just the right speed to keep the reader engaged and interested. This book is a solid start to an epic adventure! I look forward to reading how his characters develop as the armies of doom approach.
