Every creed implies a sense of life. Chesterton's strategy locates the Is in the Ought, finding all emotions in their proper place in Christianity. Mystery, surprise, beauty, personality, wonder, and levity zero out in abysses such as Buddhism and materialism, making much of our world a mad delusion.

I happened upon Orthodoxy by the suggestion of my brother in law, who’s recommendation and opinion on books I have come to trust without exception. The first time I read it, I was impressed more with Chesterton’s mastery of communication and Grammatik interpretation. He bears the style of Churchill, even in his ability to ramble for pages, at last navigating the reader to the obvious. The second time I read this was after a sort of conversion of the soul and I too felt I was an English pirate finding a new land only to discover it was my own native country.   hide
