Informative but not an easy read.

Got this book for genealogical research. It was interesting to read about an ancestor, James Vann.

The saddest thing (among so many sad things) was not the genocidal Trail of Tears itself, but destruction of the dreams of the heroic generation of Cherokees betrayed by avarice and corruption. I read this in preparation for reading "Under Cedar Shades" by my cousin Helen Lavinia Underwood. I have to rate Ehle's book one of the best I have ever read.

Fascinating. Tragic. But way too much minute detail. Still an interesting read.

Not what you'd think, it gives the history before as well as during. Obviously deep and a very sad what was done to Native Americans. My Great Great Grandfather was on the Trail, so this had a bit of a personal impact on me.
