Powerfully thought provoking for anyone involved in teaching in anyway. As a pastor I found this especially challenging since it seems to fly in the face of almost any homiletics course, and in the face of how I often teach. This is truly worth the read.

Once you get past the exclusive use of male pronouns in the book, it has some insightful things to say, even 30 years after it was first published.

what a great book this is! all people everywhere should definitely read it! and also deschooling society by ivan illich. another great book by neil postman is 'amusing ourselves to death.' the main theme of 'teaching as a subversive activity' if i had to summarise it (and why not?, i am writing this review after all, so can make up the rules as i go along) is that the purpose of school should be...more
