I read this when it came out in the 70's and it left me with such a deep impression of MQ of S and of the author's talent to bring history to life!

Read about 35 years ago. Politics,history,power and a real famale cat fight.

I am very doubtfull about anyone who is as continuously "romantic" as Fraser seems to think Mary Stuart was. Too uncritically pro-Roman Catholic (I think Fraser is one too) and very light on economic and social background. Very intersting, but very difficult to get through at some points. Detailed and thick.
