I really liked the protagonist, a real human being who just doesn't show real emotion when he is supposed to.

More like Slaughter me with Boredom. I've officially stopped reading this at page 122. This may have been revolutionary for it's time, but that doesn't make the storytelling any better, and it doesn't make feel any sorrier for American white men who need to witness atrocities of war first-hand to make them realize it's a bad idea.

Not as impressive as Breakfast of Champions or Cat's Cradle if you ask me, but it's still a classic, and a great introduction to Vonnegut.

An unconventional take on war, primarily because it doesn't overtly blame anybody. This book is too full of horror to need to be pamphleteering. Few books sum up the inhuman scale of destruction that engulfs the world we take for granted during times of incomprehensible conflict - therefore resonant with our own troubled times surely?
