Observant pet owners, farmers, zoo keepers already know first hand what Masson describes, but anecdotes are insufficient for good scholarship. The author's scientific and thorough research is what I most appreciate about this book. This makes When Elephants Weep accessible to the naturalist, animal lover, zoologist and armchair philosopher alike.
