The story of a shy, socially awkward 18-year-old who goes to school at NYU in the mid-nineties at the height of the Manhattan club trend. Through circumstance and meeting the right people he becomes Magic Matt, the "it" man for promoting clubs and parties. This true story follows his descent into the hedonistic life of true club heads. The MDMA is everywhere, the parties are hotter and the club scene, as well as Magic Matt's reputation and success in the industry reach their pinnacle. Matt was living the life he had long fantasized about. Then the problems began; his relationship with his girlfriend began to deteriorate, his relationship with his best friend began to crumble. He ultimately decides to travel to California in order to attend school there with his girlfriend and start over. But it is too late. A crazed professor ends Matt's life mere hours before he was scheduled to travel to California and a new beginning. If you were into the club scene you know that at that time there existed many "Magic Matt's" all over the country, and in the vast majority the paths there lives took lead to addictions, becoming ostracized from the very people that brought you to the peak of popularity or in Matt's unfortunate case, his untimely and violent murder. It is a story of dreams turning into nightmares and Ms. Ferrell does a wonderful job painting a picture of Matt's experiences.   hide
