This is John Grisham's first book written in the first-person, and he does a wonderful job. "The Rainmaker" is possibly my favorite John Grisham book, followed by "The Last Juror", which was also written in the first person. "The Rainmaker" is the story of a young law school graduate who loses his job after a large law firm absorbs his firm. Rudy only has two cases to make a career out of, and one of them concerns a large insurance company who is systematically exploiting uninformed poor people. Rudy sues the insurance company and finds himself at war with the law firm that he lost his job to. The characters are vivid and the story exceptionally entertaining; anyone who can read should be able to enjoy this book.   hide

I am an avid reader of horror novels so I was a little bit apprehensive about reading a book about a fresh lawyer battling against a giant corporation. However - the book was so well written and true to life that I couldn't put it down and read it whenever I had a chance. Big thumbs up to Mr Grisham!

Although the plot seems a little expected in places, this is a very good read, and probably one of my favorites penned by this author. From the "You must be stupid, stupid, stupid!" letter all the way to the end, I enjoyed this glimpse into the insurance world from a legal standpoint.
