Thoroughly enjoyable novel! Best of everything: loveable characters, great writing, historical insight, humor, pathos. I laughed out loud and cried, and reread the book, I liked it so well.
Stephenie Meyer recommended this book, but I found the form of letter writing kept the reader too separated from the characters. Neat subject matter but not a satisfying book.
I highly recommend this book of letters. It helped me get through a whole night at the airport! Delightful characters in a little known story of WW II.
Great fun! Neat perspective on during and post WWII Channel Islands life, different than your typical WWII fiction. Light & fun, but still having the serious undertones of the era.
I was hooked from the first couple pages and read it straight through. My only hesitation to giving 5 stars is that the book is really witty for the first half, but loses most of the great quippy lines in the last half.
