An excellent and informative piece of work. I learned so much about the jews, islams and the christians in Lebanon. It helped me to better understand the culture in the mideast and what we are dealing with.

Is a must read if you are interested in understanding the complex Israeli/Palestinian conflict. It is a great look at the situation during the 80's. Friedman has changed some of the views he has in this book since 9/11. Compare and contrast his pre and post 9/11 books, very interesting.

I don't know about the new chapter, but when I read it, it provided perspective not only on what had happened to Lebanon but it provided a very clear portrait of Arab worldview.
