Not bad, finally finished it. Interesting take on the traditional stories. Still, a male author so female characters were lacking any depth or attention in the book. Just started. Seems interesting. I like the writing style so far.

A great sequel to Arabian Nights. Full of magic and mystical beings alongside Mahfouz's usual wise commentary on human life and relations.

Really fun to read. It's basically a battle between good and evil, in which the genies corrupt or try and save select humans. Complicated, but really cool.

This collection is a follow-up to the original 1001 Arabian Nights. A far cry from Mahfouz's typical dry social commentary, these stories are a delight to sit down with. Magical in the old-world sense of the word, Arabian Nights and Days should definitely be checked out. Was surprised to find that I didn't enjoy this book, though I am still a big Mahfouz fan. I guess it shouldn't be a terrible surprise, since I didn't like the original Arabian Nights text all that much.
