If you have a baby, are expecting a baby, or even thinking about having a baby, this book is a must-read. The author presents compelling, historic and scientific research in a down to earth and easy to read fashion. Parents-to-be should, at the very least, read the chapter called "A Reasonable Sleep."

Excellent read. Insightful, I'm glad I read it as it alleviated my guilt over co-sleeping and just made parenting even more enjoyable. Most of the parts on culture and parenting was wonderful to read, it really made me aware that there really isn't the "right" way to parent just many right ways to accomplish the goal which is after all to have a healthy, stable, and happy child.

However, I did find the authors way of presenting points narrow at times. For example, evolutionary theory is central to her...more

Super interesting look at parenting around the world and throughout time. Discusses how cultural beliefs are reflected in childrearing practices. Made me think a lot about what my values are and how my parenting has explicitly or implicitly transmitted these values to my daughter (or not). Everyone who is a parent or thinks they might become one should read this book. Read it before you...more
