Into the Wild

Short but riveting book. It explains far more than the movie, in regards to the rationale behind McCandless' motives for being so seemingly reckless and foolhardy. The author seems to pad the book out a little with an episode from his own life but it is relevant and adds to the explanation, rather than just padding for the sake of it. Recommended.

Sad

Not what I expected, especially after watching the movie first. But it was worth the read. It has inspired me to consider trying to hitchhike here in Japan.

don't let the "movie" scare you, the book is much better
