more Loved this surreal bizarre novel set in small town west coast Scotland. It's a mix of strange characters (especially Morvern - a girl who seems to move through the world without it touching her at all...) She's completely self-absorbed - manages to hide her dead boyfriend's body and publish his novel under her own name and take the proceeds) but somehow you don't hate her, you're just constantly agog at what she'll calmly do next. The book's 'soundtrack' is quite a character in itself - Morvern's mix tapes and clubbing are a major part of her life - it's a real 90s surrealist experience. Don't bother with the film, though... And if you liked this, the follow up novels (These Demented Lands and The Man Who Walks) are even more bizarre and inaccessible, but just as fascinating.
