It delves deep into matters of human consciousness, and questioning/exploring that consciousness, while giving the reader a decent little lesson on explorations during a time when psychology was still very much considered a spiritual science. Beautifully spun tale weaves together the two main characters, and, typically Atwood, does not make for a wonderful, heart-thumping ending. Damn good stuff.
