Some wonderful moments, particularly the descriptions of her feelings about her body after cancer, but a bit Mills and Boon-y in parts which let it down for me.

Another beautiful Atwood read. I am really enjoying reading her earlier works.

Margaret Atwood is better than this book. Reads like a feminist romance novel. Main character is unlikable, her problems do not evoke sympathy. I guess that's okay to not like the characters, but it just seems like Atwood drags them all along to the end. Also, everything feels extremely dated. I'm just really glad that Atwood has gotten consistently better since this book.

Usual Margaret Atwood. Excellent writing, confused main character, inwardly directed.

I thought this was a well-crafted tale. A woman whose personal life is in turmoil tries to get away from it all with what she thinks is an easy Caribbean travel writing assignment. Instead she gets swept up into island politics, smuggling, and revolution with an oppressive government. She is imprisoned, and upon release has a better understanding of just how small her little troubles truly are....more

The end disappointed me greatly, I don't think the narrator made any significant personal developments.
