 Imprisoned by walls of their own construction, here are three people, each in midlife, in midcrisis, forced to make choices--after the rules have changed.  Elizabeth, with her controlled sensuality, her suppressed rage, is married to the wrong man.  She has just lost her latest lover to suicide.  Nate, her gentle, indecisive husband, is planning to leave her for Lesje, a perennial innocent who prefers dinosaurs to men. just when i think that I've ready all of Atwood's work...she is like the giving tree!

Don't try reading this when you are even in the least bit depressed, it will drag you down way too deep. Other than that- vintage Atwood with beautiful, if gritty, imagery that gets beneath the skin of society as usual. Dissects the notion of a traditional nuclear relationship and calls us on much of our pretentious bullshit where fidelity is concerned.

Very mature, and sometimes dull, look at real cases of adultery. Loved the character Elizabeth, not huge on Lesje though. Still, it's Margaret Atwood and I love her.

An interesting read. It presents the complexity of the human mind. How individuals try to scheme about many things making their lives more than interesting (uninteresting).

Frankly painful to read..maybe i wasn't in the mood for other peoples raw emotions, but between an emotionally stilted man, a demanding and manipulative women, i really didn't give a poop what happened to them!! Sorry love Margaret Atwood, has written some corkers..but sadly this is not one of them!

There was a funny line, but I forgot where it was. Anything by Atwood is good literature. Good enough. This got me interested in her other novels.
