I listened to an audiobook of this for extra credit in a microbiology class I took. I'm very thankful that I was forced to start it, because I couldn't get enough of it once I started listening. Fascinating and compelling are the two words that come to mind when thinking of this book. It has been at least 15 years since I have read it, but can still remember getting drawn into the tense situations. This one will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

As far as writing goes, it's not really fantastic - it's written by the brother of Douglas Preston, and that's pretty clear. Lots of overly dramatic, slightly awkward sentences. That said this is a stupendous subject matter. Man there's some terrifying diseases out there, I mean how about making your face look like a mask because all the connective tissue is straight...more

I started this book and about halfway through the first chapter I got pretty grossed out so I put it down. about 5 minutes later i started to feel kind of nauseous, and then actually kinda dizzy. apparently my subconcious just got really grossed out....i wasn't conciously that grossed. actually im kinda POed cuz it was a rlly good book...being crazy ill probably try it again soon. Had to read this for biology in high school at a very rapid pace so i didn't completely finish it before returning it, but it was an awesome read and I'll have to re-read it at some point.
