more This story of a young woman's life is told through her romantic relationships, from a crush in fifth grade until she is in her mid-twenties. Phoebe sees herself as valueless, almost a non-person. She constantly seeks male attention in an effort to make herself believe that she is beautiful (which, evidently, she is), interesting, sexy, and deserving of someone else's love and respect. Unfortunately, Phoebe isn't particular where she looks, so a lot of hilarity and hurt feelings ensue. At the end of the book, Phoebe is starting to get wiser, but it has been a painful process. I bought this book used, to read during an airplane flight. It’s admirably suited to casual reading, and it's not particularly profound.
