Bee Season: A Novel

was a very good story there parts of this book that still stay with me.

Read the book before you watch the movie. If you have seen the movie, forget it and start over. A well written story with engaging characters.

A meditation in different ways and some wrong ways.

"Myla Goldberg sets a steady hand upon her brow..." Seriously, this book is about SPELLING bees? So. Awesome. Love it love it love it, why has it taken me so long to encounter it?

Great writing - some of the author's descriptions of things will stay with you like little gems. Unfortunately, the writing was better than the plot. Great writing - some of the author's descriptions of things will stay with you like little gems. Unfortunately, the writing was better than the plot. I really enjoyed the first half of the book, and then it wandered away from the original story about a little girl's life and became a rather heavy handed description of obscure Jewish mysticism. The brother's parallel story of religious conversion felt tacked on and the end of the book was a disappointment. Overall, not bad but didn't live up to its potential.   hide

Better than the movie...

There are books I love while reading them and books I love after reading them. This one fit both descriptions. One of my top 5 book group books ever.
